When the Dallas-Arbiter Fuzz Face hit the scene, it was THE “it” box, and it left behind a legacy that many say has yet to be matched by any of its offspring. Many have tried to match the majesty of the original, and many have failed. This is due to the fact that many Fuzz Face variants fall short when it comes to the semiconductors. Our Limited Copper Germanium If 6 Was 9 does not—it’s fully loaded.

Germanium parts provide just the right amount of compression and smoothness that vintage fuzz maniacs crave. Our Limited Copper Germanium If 6 Was 9 boasts a specially-matched pair of Tesla germanium units that breathe life into the dullest tone. To ensure full vintage mojo, we’ve installed a Bias control. Let’s talk about bias for a second.

“Bias” is the term for how much voltage a transistor sees, and the second one (Q2) is where all the magic of the If 6 Was 9 happens. The Bias knob varies the amount of voltage to this second transistor, covering everything before and after the “sweet spot,” offering tons of tonal variation and the sound of every Fuzz Face you’ve ever heard on a classic rock record. Pretty sweet, huh?

Of course, the original Fuzz Face was not without its fault. The amount of fuzz goes from “barely any” to full-bore within the last 10 percent of the Fuzz knob, and you have to keep the Volume control all the way up all the time. We’ve fixed both of these. What’s more, the specs of the original parts varied wildly, so no two sounded exactly alike. This is where the Tone toggle comes in.

Flipping the Tone toggle to either position gives you a different fuzz profile, from big and burly to nice and tight. Consider it a pickup selector, capable of fattening up the most anemic single coils or taming the gnarliest humbuckers. With just four controls, this Limited If 6 Was 9 delivers the quintessential germanium fuzz experience. But the perfection doesn’t end with the sound—it looks killer too.

Each Limited Germanium If 6 Was 9 comes clad in a quarter-pound of brushed copper, giving it an aged, vintage look that matches its internal pedigree.

All pricing in USD. Due to the limited nature of this pedal, the Limited Copper Germanium If 6 Was 9  is excluded from any sales or coupon codes.

Unlike the original, this control has range throughout, instead of just the maximum. Go from sparkling harmonic enhancement to blissed-out sustain with one turn.

This varies the voltage to Q2’s collector, giving you a huge range of tones from zippy and lean to full and throaty.

There’s more on tap here than in the stock unit, letting you really give your amp what-for.

This three-position switch delivers three different fuzz voicings. Chose from Tight (left), Treble Boost (center), and Thick (right).
