Horizon - Custom Shop Trans Red

$140.00 $175.00

The Horizon is a retro style optical compressor designed to deliver silky smooth compression with a blossoming release. An optical compressor relies on a photocell and LED or light source to control the dynamic range of the input signal. As the input signal increases the intensity of the LED, the photocell decreases gain thus creating compression. As the level of the input signal decreases, the gain of the amplifier stage is increased creating a sustaining effect.

The Horizon uses a buffered JFET input, low noise transistors and IC, and a selected optocoupler to deliver everything from subtle compression to heavy squash. Perfect for both guitar and bass applications, the Horizon can be used to add subtle body or blooming sustain all while maintaining a natural treble response that ensures a lively present guitar or bass tone with excellent transparency.

Power & Dimensions
  • Knobs:

Comp: Turning the Comp knob up increases the compression—but more precisely, it changes up the gain and the release for a balanced control.

Attack: This control simultaneously adjusts the speed and intensity of the Horizon. Turning it up controls how quickly the pedal “clamps down” on the signal.

Vol: Some compressors can cause a perceived dip in volume as they work their magic. The Vol control gives you a little extra push when you need it.

Input: Instrument or other pedal goes here.

Output: Amplifier or other pedal goes here.

True bypass footswitch: Turns the effect on and off.

  • Power: The Horizon requires a center-negative 9VDC power adapter with at least 5mA of current (not included). Almost all power supplies meet this requirement, but check yours beforehand.
